Confirmation Bias

Confirmation bias is the tendency to search for, interpret and recall information in a way that supports what we already believe. It is a very human and highly prevalent flaw in our behaviour. We very often have the tendency to process information by looking for, or interpreting information that is consistent with our existing beliefs. This biased approach to 'confirming facts' or decision making is largely unintentional, and it results in a person ignoring information that is inconsistent with their beliefs. This explanation by Tim Minchin is the best, most entertaining explanation of this common trait.
